North Shore Community Foundation's Impact on Daily Life at Janet's Place

North Shore Crisis Services Society expresses profound gratitude to the North Shore Community Foundation for their support of Janet's Place.

Time after time, we get to see firsthand the profound impact of community solidarity, exemplified by invaluable partnerships such as ours with the North Shore Community Foundation. This collaboration has been key to sustaining Janet's Place, one of three Second Stage Housing Programs operated by North Shore Crisis Services Society.

Since opening in 2020, Janet's Place has been central to our mission. More than just shelter, Janet's Place offers stability and peace of mind. Generally, residents stay in our second-stage housing programs for 18 months, affording them the time and environment needed for healing.

This generous $7,250 Community Grant from the North Shore Community Foundation ensures ongoing operations and improvements, providing safe sanctuary and essential comprehensive services to women and children leaving domestic violence.

This funding impacts our daily lives.

Many of our clients have young children, making the search for a suitable home in the Lower Mainland an immediate concern. Access to affordable housing is the most significant challenge reported by residents at SAGE Transition House, underscoring the importance of second-stage housing programs.

Janet's Place warmly welcomes residents into clean, fully furnished suites. Our priority is ensuring these families feel safe, valued, and optimistic about their futures. To sustain our efforts, we rely heavily on fundraising and community support to cover all building and operational expenses, which include electricity, running water, WiFi, security, garbage disposal, yard maintenance, and other crucial utilities.

For comprehensive support, our Outreach Worker assists families throughout their stay, helping them access benefits, counseling, legal advice, schooling, job opportunities, and other essential services. Meanwhile, a Facilities Coordinator oversees the maintenance and safety compliance of our residential properties.

Our heartfelt thanks to the North Shore Community Foundation for championing our cause.
