2023 North Shore Waterfront Gala Grants $50,000 to NSCSS
North Shore Waterfront Gala grants $100,000 over 2 years to support NSCSS’ Supportive Housing Programs

[North Vancouver, BC] - North Shore Crisis Services Society was honoured to attend this year’s North Shore Waterfront Gala, hosted on May 18th, 2023. Prior to the event, NSCSS was chosen to receive a generous $50,000 grant to support the charity’s safe housing and direct service programs for women and children surviving violence on the North Shore. Also a beneficiary was Backpack Buddies, a local organization that helps to combat food insecurity for families with young children, which many NSCSS clients and staff are grateful for.
The North Shore Waterfront Gala is a community initiative by North Shore’s five major waterfront terminals and the businesses that support them. The event was created to celebrate and give back to the North Shore community and has raised over $1.3 million for families and children in need of a helping hand (source).
“Your support moves mountains for the women and children we serve, “states Laura Reynolds, NSCSS’ Executive Director. “Through your contribution, you are offering these individuals the opportunity to live in a home that is filled with love and hope instead of fear and despair, as one of our clients described to us… We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and eagerly anticipate the continuation of our joint efforts to create a safe, more compassionate North Shore for everyone.”
NSCSS’ exciting new partnership with the North Shore Waterfront Gala will focus on 3 main pillars:
1) Continuing Education
For example: Funds can help secure childcare to allow mothers with young children to attend important meetings, such as job interviews, classes/exams, medical care, and court proceedings.
2) Strengthening Community
For example: With greater access to safe housing, children can safely leave abuse with mom and still complete the school year at the same school and with their existing support network. We also help families find opportunities for children to access recreational sports. Funds can be used to remove barriers to recreational activities, such as summer camps.
3) Paving a Path to Freedom
For example: Funds can help cover costs for translation services to empower clients to self-advocate. Furthermore, the winter holidays are a particularly challenging time for our families. We can help cover costs of essentials (such as warm clothes or gift cards to major department stores), and families can choose to continue or create new holiday traditions.
