Dec 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against women. This day was started after the murder of  14 young women at Polytechnique Montréal on Dec 6, 1989. www.national-day-remembrance.

The NS VAWIR (Violence Against Women in Relationships) committee www.northshorevawir.com also marks this as a day to remember the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls  www.mmiwg    To commemorate the day, every year the committee organizes a Walk to Remember.
